What is Arthritis
Arthritis quite literally means "inflammation of the joints". Joints are where two bones meet, and the function of a joint is to allow movement. The most common type of joint contains cartildge which allows smooth movement between bones, and acts as a buffer against wear and tear. The most common type of arthritis (osteo- arthritis or "degenerative joint disease"), occurs due to damage and wear to the cartiledge within a joint.
Where does it occur?
The most commonly affected joints in ostearthritis are the hips, knees, lower back and neck, but can effectall joints of the body if they have been injured at some stage.
